2016-17 Assessment Documents and Resources

2016-2017 Kansas Assessments OverviewThis is an overview of the assessments that will be administered in 2016-2017.

Assessment Q&A

Hello Kansas educators! We have been receiving countless emails with questions around the KITE system and thought we would throw together a sort of Q&A email to hopefully help clarify a few items. First let us start by informing you that CETE serves many states across the country with KITE and therefore many of the resources they have available are general in nature. They are in the process of creating a section on their website which we help clarify procedures for Kansas. In the meantime we will try and help sort through the process. We might also add CETE is currently working on the 2015 - 2016 Examiners Manual which will be the best resource for Kansas schools to reference. Once this document is available to the field we will notify everyone via the listserv.

Q1. With all the things within the assessment program how do I know who to contact for assistance?

Accommodation Questions

Q2. Will test scores be available immediately upon the student’s completion?

Answer: Test Scores will not be available until after test window closes.

Q3. Where are the formatives and practice tests located when they are available?

Both of these are located within the KITE system. CETE has created a limited number of formatives and practice tests available for schools to administer to their students. For instructions on how to set up at test please read Test Setup (PDF). This document is also located on the KAP Website under the Documentation Section.

Q4. What are the PNP records I keep hearing about?

PNP stands for Personal Needs and Preference profile. If you wish to have an accommodation for a student during testing you will need to set this profile in the KITE system. CETE has created a video to assist in this process: Personal Needs Profile (PNP) Tutorial (Video)This document is also located on the KAP Website under theDocumentation Section. The PNP can be accessed in his/her Student Record in Educator Portal of the Kansas Interactive Testing Engine (KITE). If an accommodation is needed and is not listed in the KSDE Accommodations Manual, call or email Debbie Matthews: 785-296-0916, dmatthews@ksde.org. This is a new process so please make sure to read the information completely.

Q5. How can I see if all my teachers have students assigned to them in KITE?

  1. Log into the educator portal with your administrative password.
  2. Go to Test Management then Add New Test Session.
  3. Pick a KAP Assessment and hit Next (doesn't matter which one, that is not the point).
  4. Scroll over to Teacher Last Name Field.
  5. Enter the name of each teacher (one by one) who will be administering assessments.

If students appear rostered to that teacher, then the STCO upload was successful for that teacher and they should be able to see rostered students and thus create formatives.  If a teacher name does not come up associated with students, the STCO Upload was unsuccessful for that teacher and you can begin the process of identifying the errors which need to be addressed with KIDS personnel at KSDE.

Q6. How do students access KITE?

To administer a test, you must have KITE downloaded and installed on each test machine. This can be a push install conducting by local IT departments if necessary. To see the specifications required and directions on how to download KITE please visit the KAP Website. Once you have the necessary software the student may login into KITE using the username and password from the test ticket you created and printed off for them. For instructions on how to create and print off your tickets please readTest Tickets (PDF). This document is also located on the KAP Website under the Documentation Section.

Q7. How do we add students into KITE?

In Kansas you will add students in the same manner you have been adding students for the past several years. You will upload your students from KIDS System into KITE. For detailed instructions on how to do this please reference Uploading a KIDS File (PDF). You will not create a CSV file for this. If you need assistance with the KIDS System please contact them at 785-296-7935 or kids@ksde.org.

Q8. How do we add new teachers to the KITE system?

You will need to download the User Templates which is a CSV file. You will then need to enter the information for the teachers you wish to add and upload this file into KITE. For complete instructions on this process you can read Users/Adding Users (PDF). These documents are also located on the KAP Website under the Documentation Section.

Q9. How do teachers access the KITE system?

First you must enter the KITE Educator Portal this is a website link and therefore you do not need to have anything special installed on your computer as long as you are using an approved browser (Firefox 22.0 (recommended), Firefox 10.0.5, Firefox 23.0, IE 8, or Safari 6.0.5). If you had a login from the old system that login should have been carried over to the new system. If you are having difficulties logging in you need to contact CETE at 785-864-3537 or 855-277-9752 or via email atkap_support@ku.edu KSDE cannot assist with this process since it is CETE system.
