Current Events and Issues

State Board members continue to visit schools that are in the redesign process. They plan to tour Liberal and Dighton schools during a western Kansas trip Sept. 30-Oct. 2, at which time they will also visit schools in Garden City. Local chamber offices in Liberal and Garden City will host business roundtables as part of the itinerary.

The next regular State Board of Education meeting is Oct. 15 and 16 in Topeka. This is a week later than usual.  Individuals who need the use of a sign language interpreter, or who require other special accommodations, should contact Peggy Hill at 785-296-3203 or plhill@ksde.org at least seven business days prior to a Kansas State Board of Education meeting.

50 years -- This year, the State Board of Education will mark its 50th anniversary under constitutional design. The first elected 10-member State Board took office in 1969. There will be a reception celebrating the milestone and to honor the work of citizen leadership in public education on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
