Change in Fingerprint Requirement for Licensure - Friday, October 17, 2014

NEW»» FINGERPRINT REQUIREMENT CHANGE EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 15, 2014

At their September 2014 meeting, the Kansas State Board of Education adopted regulation changes regarding requirements for a fingerprint based records check. These changes will affect veteran educators who have never submitted fingerprints as part of any previous application for a Kansas certificate or license issued by the Kansas State Department of Education.

 

EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 15, 2014:
Any person submitting any of the following will ALSO be required to submit AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION, a complete set of fingerprints and the required fee:

  • An application for the first Kansas certificate or license;
  • An application for renewal of an expired Kansas certificate or license; or
  • NEW»» An application for renewal of a valid Kansas certificate or license, if the person has never submitted fingerprints as part of any previous application for a Kansas certificate or license.

Effective September 1, 2014 License Fees Increase - Monday, June 23, 2014

LICENSURE FEE INCREASE EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1

The licensure fees set by the state board for FY 2015 INCREASED LICENSURE FEES TO $60.00 or $70.00.

(Two exceptions are the Restricted license $65.00 and the Accomplished license $85.00)

Fees for FY 2015 will be effective September 1, 2014.

HB 2506 Licensure Changes - Monday, June 16, 2014

LICENSURE CHANGES ACCOMMODATING PROVISIONS OF HB 2506

House Bill 2506, recently signed into law by Governor Brownback, calls for several changes to be made to teacher licensing as it relates to STEM degree holders, out-of-state license holders and career technical education. A special meeting of the state board was called on Tuesday, June 3rd in order to expedite the approval process of temporary and permanent teacher licensure regulations in order to comply with new state law that goes into effect July 1. Additional information will be forwarded soon, including links to application forms that will be available beginning July 1.

Teacher Licensure and Accreditation

The Teacher Licensure and Accreditation (TLA) team is responsible for issuing educator licenses, facilitating the review of educator training programs at all Kansas institutions of higher education and coordinating a process for those institutions that leads to accreditation by the Kansas State Board of Education. The Teacher Licensure and Accreditation team also oversees the accreditation process of Kansas schools through the current Quality Performance Accreditation (QPA) system.
