Technical Certificates

The technical certificate is for individuals who have occupational experience (minimum of 4000 hours) and expertise in the technical field they will be teaching.

Technical certificates are valid for instruction in technical programs in the areas of trade and industry, health occupations, specialized occupational family and consumer sciences, horticulture, technology education, marketing, and business and computer technology.  A technical special needs certificate is available if providing instruction to special needs students in technical programs.

Applicants with the appropriate occupational experience and verified expertise are issued a restricted technical certificate that allows them to begin teaching while working on completion of a prescribed training program.  The training program consists of 18 semester credit hours and/or the equivalent professional development points approved through a local professional development council that address nine specific pedagogical areas.  Applicants for the technical special needs certificate complete nine additional credits addressing special education topics.

If this is your initial Kansas license or if your most recent certificate/license is expired, you will also need to Order a Fingerprint Card and Instructions
