Current Events and Issues

Board members will be present to help recognize this year's nominees for the annual Kansas Teacher of the Year award during regional banquets Sept. 6 in Salina and Wichita, and Sept. 7 in Topeka and Overland Park.

 

The next regular meeting of the State Board of Education is Sept. 16 and 17 in Suite 102 of the Landon State Office Building, 900 SW Jackson, Topeka.

 

Special guests at the August State Board of Education meeting shared experiences from participating in KSDE’s Summer Academies held in Derby, Topeka and Abilene. Presenters were Elisa Dorian, USD 469 Lansing; Lori Rice, USD 320 Wamego; Julie “Danny” Aikins of Chanute; and Lisa Blair with the Education Service Center at Greenbush. The educators also gave examples of how they are implementing the new standards in their classrooms.

 

The search for a new Kansas Commissioner of Education has officially opened with the position announcement and online application at www.macnjake.com.  The deadline to apply is Oct. 15, 2014. McPherson & Jacobson L.L.C. Executive Recruitment and Development will serve as search consultants and assist the Kansas State Board of Education in identifying and screening candidates.
