Professional Teaching License Requirements
The teacher must hold a currently valid conditional/initial teaching license. While holding the conditional/initial teaching license:
Successfully complete a Performance Assessment in order to move to the professional teaching license.
I am a licensed teacher in another state. Can I apply for a Professional License?
Out-of-state applicants for an initial Kansas license are issued the highest level of license they qualify for based on review by TEAL staff of the documentation provided in the application packet. If you do not meet the requirements for the professional license, you must meet the requirements for the initial teaching license, a prestandard license, or a standard substitute license.
Out-of-state applicant requirements for a professional teaching license:
Bachelor’s degree
Completion of a state-approved preparation program in the subject or field in which licensure is sought
Recency: defined as at least one year of accredited teaching experience OR eight semester hours of college credit, within the six year period immediately prior to application
Out-of-state professional license
Assessments in content and pedagogy and a performance assessment are already completed.

Completed an out-of-state program?
