Kansas State Department of Education Annual Conference Coming to Wichita April 30 – May 2, 2008

TOPEKA—Six hundred educators from across Kansas are expected to gather in Wichita April 30, May 1 – 2, 2008, for the Kansas State Department of Education’s Annual Conference.

TOPEKA—Six hundred educators from across Kansas are expected to gather in Wichita April 30, May 1 – 2, 2008, for the Kansas State Department of Education’s Annual Conference. Leadership & Support for all Learners will be the theme of the conference, which will take place at the Hyatt Regency and Century II Convention Center in Wichita. 
            The conference will focus on best practices and tools to empower teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to meet the needs of learners, both children and adults, in order to ensure that optimal learning and achievement occur. Registration is open to all interested individuals.
            The pre-conference sessions will open April 30. Dr. Phillip C. Schlechty, CEO of Schlechty Center for Leadership in School Reform, will present a session Working the Work and Dr. James R. Stone, III will present a session on Integration of Academics and Career Technical Education. Dr. Stone is the director of the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education at the University of Louisville.
            The main conference will open May 1 with a welcome by Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Alexa Posny, followed by the keynote address “Creating Learning Organizations,” Dr. Phillip C. Schlechty, presenter. Also featured during the conference will be presentations by Kansas educators. Students from the Wichita school district will perform during the conference.
            On-line registration is open through April 24 or until the conference sells out. To register, go to the conference website at http://annualconference.ksde.org.. There are three different registration fees: $175 for pre-conference only; $200 for the main conference only; $300 for the combination of pre-and main conference. Lodging is available at the Wichita Hyatt, with overflow rooms at the Broadview Hotel, the Cambridge Suites, and the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites.
