Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program
Recency - means the applicant must have at least 8 credit hours or one year of accredited teaching experience completed within the last six years

Are the requirements for an initial license the same if I am an experienced teacher coming from out-of-state?
The degree, program, and recency requirements are the same. However, a teacher coming from another state may have some options regarding the testing. You may qualify for a prestandard license until you complete the tests OR you may be able to apply for a professional license as your first Kansas license, depending on experience and the level of the out-of-state certificate/license.
Applicants will be issued the highest level of license they qualify for based on review by TEAL staff of the documentation provided.
Out-of-state applicant requirements for an initial teaching license
May be issued an two-year exchange license if applicable
May be issued a one-year nonrenewable license if hired by a Kansas district
A substitute license until content and pedagogy tests are completed
Meet experience requirements to come in at the professional license level
I have already completed all the requirements for a license and need to apply. Where can I get an application?
