CACFP Jump Start for Centers introduces all the elements needed for a successful Child Nutrition Program. New Authorized Representatives must attend this training. It may be taken as a refresher at any time. The training is divided into three segments (Infants, Administration, Menu Book). Participants may attend one or all segments as needed.

Evaluation Review Committee
The Evaluation Review Committee (ERC) is composed of 13 members, four each representing higher education, school administrators, and teachers and one at-large member. The ERC reviews and evaluates on-sites and program reviews to determine accreditation status of the Kansas teacher education institutions and the teacher education programs which they offer. The committee conducts hearings upon the request of a teacher education institution to appeal the ERC's recommendation regarding the unit or program accreditation status. The ERC submits its final recommendations regarding accreditation and program approval status to the Kansas State Board of Education.

In 2013, six 2-day regional Summer Academies will take a classroom focus on advancing instruction for the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards. Participants attending each academy will select a single two-day workshop from a menu of choices to probe deeply into the instructional shifts necessary to implement the standards. All sessions will emphasize hands-on activities, collaboration, and cross content-area integration. By the end of each academy, participants will walk away with ideas and materials that can be embedded into their instruction for the coming school year.
The cost of attending is $200 per person for the two-day academy. Costs include the professional development, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack each day.

Kansas Excellence in Education Conference
This by-invitation-only conference is for active KEEN members and their principals and superintendents; educators who recently have been nominated for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching Program. Conference invitations will be mailed in April, 2013. Registration required.
The conference includes an awards lunch and program recognizing the Presidential nominees and announcing the state finalists. Guests are invited to attend the awards celebration, but registration is required. There may be a charge for guests to cover the cost of the meal.

Professional Standards Board meeting
The Professional Standards Board was created by statute K.S.A. 72-8502. It consists of 21 members who are appointed to a three-year term of office by the State Board of Education. The Standards Board is composed of 7 public school classroom teachers, 1 chief public school administrator, 3 building level public school administrators, 1 area vocational school teacher, 1 public school special education administrator, 1 accredited non-public school teacher, 1 accredited non-public school administrator, 1 Board of Regents university dean of the school of education, 1 faculty or administrative representative from a private teacher education institution, 1 member of a parent-teacher association, 1 member of a local board of education. Duties The Standards Board is responsible for developing and recommending for adoption rules and regulations for professional standards governing teaching and school administrator preparation and admission to and continuance in the profession of teaching and school administration, including the requirements for continuing education for teachers and school administrators.
