Quality Performance Accreditation (QPA)

Currently, accreditation in Kansas is a school-based model called Quality Performance Accreditation (QPA), which relies on a combination the individual school's performance on state assessments and its ability to meet 11 Quality Assurance Criteria (See below.). The system was developed in 1992 and was modified in 2005. A new accreditation system is underdevelopment (See Proposed PK-12 Accreditation Model.).

Elements of the QPA Model

ACCREDITATION STATUSES

Based upon how a school meets the Performance and Quality Criteria, it will be classified as one of the following:

  • Accredited - The school meets minimum performance and quality criteria
  • Accredited on Improvement - For 2 consecutive years, the school fails to meet performance criteria for one or more assessed student group(s) or fails to meet three or more quality criteria.
  • Conditional Accredited - For 3 consecutive years, the school fails to meet performance criteria for the "all" student groups or fails to meet four or more quality criteria.
  • Not Accredited - For 5 consecutive years, the school fails to meet performance criteria for the "all" student group or fails to meet four or more quality criteria.

  2. External Technical Assistance Team

  5. Licensed and Fully Certified Staff
  6. Local Board of Education Requirements
  7. Local Graduation Requirements
  8. Regents Qualified Admissions Report
  9. Programs and Services to Support Student Learning (K- 12)
  10. Programs and Services to Support Student Learning (9 – 12)
  11. Local Policies Ensuring Compliance
