ESRI ArcGIS Statewide License Program

Be a Part of the Geospatial Revolution!

Today's students embrace technology outside the classroom, and when used effectively, spatial technology is an excellent tool to engage students inside the classroom as well.  To support education efforts around this revolution, ESRI, the world's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software leader, and the Kansas Department of Education have partnered to provide every public, private and charter K-12 school thoroughout the state free access to ESRI's state-of-the-art GIS software, ArcGIS and training.  This software will enable administrators, educators and students alike to access, visualize and analyze a wealth of information from and about their own communities and the world.

Geospatial information influences nearly everything.  Seamless layers of satellites, surveillance, and location-based technologies create a worldwide geographic knowledge base vital to solving myriad social and environmental problems in the interconnected global community.  Watch this compelling snapshot of what the Geospatial Revolution Project, means and how ArcGIS can bring relevant, exciting, and innovative learning opportunities to Kansas Classrooms!  For additional K-12 education videos and resources from the Geospatial  Revolution Project, click here.

ESRI's ArcGIS is a comprehensive system system that allows people to collect, organize, manage, analyze, communicate, and distribute geographic information.  It incorporates a broad range of application that can be integrated into many subject areas, from mathematics and science, to computer technology and geography.

There are two primary options for ArcGIS implementation:  ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Desktop.  We encourage those new to GIS to start with ArcGIS online as it is entirely an online experience and easy to get started since there is nothing to download or install on your computer.  This may be the best choice for those new to the technology.

Please review the information regarding online/desktop options to determine the most appropriate for your school/district needs.

We recommend that teachers consult with a school administrator, other teachers and their technology coordinator regarding submitting a software request in order to avoid duplicate requests and to facilitate the most effective school use of the software as possible.  We also highly encourage cultivating a school team of GIS-using educators rather than leaving the sole responsibility to a technology coordinator to distribute and/or provide technical support.
