Kansas Math Project’s asynchronous option released, training opportunities available

KSDE’s Kansas Technical Assistance System Network (TASN) has released the Kansas Math Project (KMP) via Moodle. The website enables Kansas math teachers, Pre-K-12, to begin their asynchronous KMP journey.

Click on this link to access KMP. Once there, click on “Create account,” create your free Moodle account and begin with KMP Foundational Module A. You will sequentially go through KMP Foundational Modules A-E, taking each module’s quiz and ending with the cumulative quiz. Once you have successfully completed the cumulative quiz, you will have access to a Certificate of Completion of KMP Foundational Modules and to all of the KMP Grade-Band Modules, which are expected to be released within the next few weeks.

What is KMP?

Every math teacher in Kansas should have a strong understanding of evidence-based teaching strategies and an equally strong understanding of math content. The Kansas Math Project, put forth in collaboration with the Kansas State Department of Education, has been developed to precisely attend to each of these beliefs through a systematic framework of modules geared for teachers and administrators. Modules will be delivered both synchronously and asynchronously to develop the math practitioner's aptitude to use the language of mathematics, integrate modeling and practice, and incorporate mathematics concepts and procedures that build students' fluency within the four operations, and their ability to set-up and solve text-based problems. In addition, KMP will expand each teacher's scope of content knowledge along the progression of standards from Pre-K to Algebra 2. KMP is built by Kansas math teachers for Kansas math teachers.

A KMP Advisory Council meets regularly and provides critical feedback. You can hear some of the feedback at this link.
