KSDE’s Teacher Licensure team issues reminder about process to add endorsement

With the start of the 2023-2024 school year, the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Teacher Licensure team wants to remind everyone of the process to add an endorsement to an initial or professional license.

The only endorsements that can’t be added by testing are:

  • Early Childhood.
  • Early Childhood Unified.
  • Elementary Education/Elementary Unified.
  • School Leadership.
  • School Specialist.
  • Special Education:
    • High Incidence (formerly known as adaptive).
    • Low Incidence (formerly known as functional).
    • Gifted.
    • Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
    • Visually Impaired.

To add one of the above endorsements, please email Teacher Licensure at TLALicense@ksde.org.

All other endorsement areas can be added by testing. Test information can be found here. Once an individual has taken the content test and passed, he or she will need to fill out Form 22: Add a New Teaching Endorsement by Testing. To fill out Form 22, an individual will need to access the Kansas Licensure Application System website.

The following are the requirements for adding an endorsement by testing:

  • You must hold a currently valid Kansas teaching license.
  • You must receive a passing score on the appropriate content assessment.
  • You must have your content assessment score sent electronically to KSDE. The recipient code is 7270.

For more information, email TLALicense@ksde.org.
