School Transportation Safety Conference, State Driving Competition planned for end of May

The Kansas School Transportation Safety Conference and State Driving Competition will be May 31-June 2 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview in Wichita.

During the three-day event, student transportation professionals will connect and learn how to improve operations and safety for their transportation teams.

The Kansas School Transportation Safety Conference strives to educate not just the transportation administration but the school bus driver, mechanic, dispatch and paras/monitors by offering workshops and speakers that provide workable solutions and practical answers to pressing questions about student transportation.

The conference is designed to increase safety and make local operations more efficient and effective.

Additionally, school bus drivers must meet significantly more stringent requirements for licensure, qualifications and training than most other CDL (Commercial Driver's License) drivers.

Why attend?

  • Learn the latest trends.
  • Improve training in general education transportation.
  • Improve training in special education transportation.
  • Learn to produce better, more quantifiable results from the transportation team.
  • Improve transportation safety.
  • Decrease losses.

Will this help us retain our school bus drivers?
Yes! One of the reasons experienced school bus drivers are leaving the profession is the lack of continued training.  The more your transportation staff members know, the better (and safer) they are.

Who should attend?

  • Transportation directors and supervisors
  • School bus drivers
  • Superintendents
  • Fleet managers, mechanics and technicians
  • Driver trainers
  • Special education paraprofessionals

In addition, school transportation personnel can receive training in:

  • Communicating effectively with students and parents.
  • How to recognize, intervene and report signs of harassment, bullying or abuse.
  • Handling confidential student information in a legally compliant and responsible manner.

The early bird registration deadline is May 5. The conference program, registration form and more can be found here
