The licensure program standards for all content areas are being revised. These will be posted as each set is adopted by the Kansas State Board of Education. The higher education institutions have agreed to a 3-year adoption window for each set of revised standards. Please contact Catherine Chmidling (785-291-3573; cchmidling@ksde.org) with any questions on the program template or licensure standards revisions.
Program reviewers use reviewing guidelines approved by the Policies and Procedures Committee, and prepare for each review using a worksheet.
The Kansas State Board of Education requires candidates for K-6 teaching licenses, English Language Arts endorsements, reading specialist teaching licenses, and special education teaching licenses to pass an assessment of their knowledge of the Science of Reading. Restricted programs which may include English Language Arts 6-12 candidates must address the Science of Reading. Assessments must be approved by KSDE’s literacy program manager.
This clarification was approved by the Policies & Procedures committee in Fall 2016.
