Dr. Carol Brooks Simoneau will lead four-day Adaptive Schools Trainings across state

Author and presenter Dr. Carol Brooks Simoneau will lead the Kansas State Department of Education’s four-day Adaptive Schools Training during the 2023-2024 school year. 

She is the director for Thinking Collaborative and provides training in Cognitive Coaching® and Adaptive Schools® (Foundation and Advanced), presentations skills, facilitation skills and teacher leadership. Brooks Simoneau has worked as a teacher and reading specialist with students of all ages and modeled instructional strategies in the classroom. She also has worked with students in intervention programs designed to prevent reading failure. 

Registration is now open. Sessions for the 2023-2024 school year will take place at: 

  • Southwest Plains Conference Center, 810 W. Lark Ave. in Sublette: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 9-10, 2023, and Jan. 29-30, 2024. 
  • Greenbush in Lawrence, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Registration and breakfast open at 8 a.m. Oct. 19-20, 2023, and Feb. 8-9, 2024. The cost, which includes all four days of training, all reading and training materials, breakfast and lunch, is $300. Graduate college credit is available. 
  • Orion Education and Training, 13939 Diagonal Road in Clearwater: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 13, 2023; Oct. 16, 2023; Jan. 31, 2024; and Feb. 1, 2024. The cost, which includes all four days of training and lunch, is $300 per person. Two hours of college credit is available. 
  • ESSDACK, 1500 E. 11th in Hutchinson: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct.17-18, 2023, and Feb. 6-7, 2024. The cost, which covers all four days of training, all reading and training materials and lunch, is $300 per person. 
  • Smoky Hill Education Service Center, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 11-12, 2023, Feb. 2, 2024, and Feb. 5, 2024. The cost, which covers lunch, snacks and materials, is $300 per person. Only 50 to 80 spots are available at each location and registration is open until each event is filled. 

By engaging in this four-day training, district leadership teams will have the capacity to: 

  • Be flexible and adaptive with their structure while also being clear about their identity. 
  • Build collaborative, professional cultures and develop highly productive teams. 
  • Foster innovation while maintaining and supporting foundational practices that have proven to be impactful. 
  • Address the adaptive challenges currently facing systems across Kansas (staff shortages, high turnover, professional development needs, etc.). 


Trainings are for district leadership teams of three to five people. Use this KSDE Flyer or Brochure to learn more about the training and trainer and to register for the four-day training.
