Child abuse prevention trainings available in August, September

The Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL) is offering several child abuse prevention and strengthening families training topics in August and September, including some evening opportunities.

The trainings are free and open to the public.

Upcoming trainings include:

  • Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognition, Reporting and Supporting.
  • Connections Matter in Early Childhood.
  • Preventing Infant Abuse with the Period of PURPLE Crying (recommended for anyone working with parents with a new baby, including child care providers, home visitors, Parents As Teachers, Head Start, etc.).
  • An Introduction to Adverse Childhood Experiences.
  • ACEs and Resilience (including the full Resilience film screening).
  • Darkness to Light Stewards of Children (child sexual abuse prevention training).
  • Making the Connection: Strong Families, Strong Businesses, Strong Communities.
  • LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency: Best Practices for Working with LGBTQIA+ Youth and Families.
  • A Shift in Perspective: A Preventative Approach in Supporting Families and Reducing Child Abuse and Neglect.

The trainings listed above are all approved by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) for child care licensing hours, and all participants will receive certificates of attendance (which will work for BSRB and KDHE licensing).

Additionally, the Expanded Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognition, Reporting and Supporting training has been added for Sept. 27. Please note that this is a two-hour training provided in partnership with the Kansas Department of Child and Families (DCF) and KCSL trainers. It provides the same information from the regular one-hour training but goes more in-depth into DCF decision-making and report protocols. The training will be from 1:30- 3:30pm.

For school districts or organizations that need an annual mandated reporter training, but do not need a certificate of attendance, an abbreviated Child Abuse and Neglect recording has been updated and is available on YouTube located here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBgdSku3Als

For a current schedule and descriptions, and to register for a training, please find the full listing at https://www.kcsl.org/training_events.aspx
