Distinct Count Dashboard launches to connect Kansans with early childhood data

A new tool has been launched to help guide policy and measure the impact of early childhood services in Kansas.

The Distinct Count Dashboard provides information regarding the number of children receiving early childhood services in Kansas.

There are an estimated 212,462 children birth to age 5 in Kansas, according to 2022 Census Bureau data. The dashboard focuses on the number of children served by early care and education programs, like home visiting, child care and preschool.

Users can filter by county and by service type to better understand the picture of early childhood services in their community.

This project is part of the state All In For Kansas Kids strategic plan for early childhood, which includes as a strategy the improved use of early childhood data. Kansas state agencies have partnered to establish the Kansas Early Childhood Data Trust. This partnership allows agencies to share data and information to improve programs and services for Kansas children and families.

The University of Kansas Center for Public Partnerships and Research is a key partner in implementing the All In For Kansas Kids strategic plan and provided essential support in this project.
