KSDE Teacher Licensure team releases Content Test Appeal Application

The Kansas State Department of Education Teacher Licensure team has released the Content Test Appeal Application for those who have completed an initial Kansas teacher preparation program and took the content exam twice without achieving a passing score.

The Kansas State Board of Education at its October meeting approved the creation of a content test appeals process.

The Teacher Licensure team updated the State Board about the process in October. The process includes a rubric that will be used to score the appeals.

The appeal may be submitted by individuals through a Kansas school district if the following criteria are met:

  1. Completed an initial state-approved education preparation program.
  2. Hasn’t achieved a passing score on the required content exam after at least two attempts.
  3. Is either currently employed in a teaching position with a Kansas school district or was employed previously by a Kansas school district willing to assist with the application process.

The application, which can be downloaded by clicking the linkk below, includes content test appeal instructions, rubric scoring criteria and a district evaluation form. The district evaluation form must be completed by a superintendent or principal in order to submit a content test appeal to the KSDE Teacher Licensure team.

Once a content test appeal is received by the Teacher Licensure team, the application will be reviewed to ensure the educator meets established rubric criteria. If rubric criteria are met, Teacher Licensure staff members will schedule the educator for an interview at the next available Licensure Review Committee meeting.
