2023-2024 KSDE Budget Workshops begin next week; registrations being accepted

The 2023-2024 KSDE Budget Workshops kick off Wednesday, June 14, at Southwest Plains Regional Service Center in Sublette. 

Budget workshops, presented by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Craig Neuenswander and Dale Brungardt, director of the Kansas State Department of Education’s (KSDE) School Finance team, are scheduled throughout June at various locations in Kansas.  

The 2023-2024 budget document will be reviewed and there will be discussion about several new school finance bills passed by the 2023 legislature.  

Registration is required to attend. Lunch is included at sites for a fee.

All budget workshops are from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.  

Budget workshop dates and locations:  

  • June 14: Sublette, Southwest Plains Regional Service Center, 810 West Lark Ave., Sublette. Register here by June 8. A fee of $25 includes lunch.  
  • June 15: Oakley, Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center, Northwest Kansas Education Service Center, 703 West 2nd, Oakley. Register here by June 8. The registration fee is $20, which includes lunch.  
  • June 19: Greenbush, Southeast Kansas Education Service Center, 947 West 47 Highway, Girard. Register here by June 16. The registration fee is $25, which includes lunch.  
  • June 21: Valley Center, Valley Center High School, 9600 N. Meridian, Valley Center. Register here by June 15. The registration fee is $12, which includes lunch.  
  • June 22: Shawnee Heights High School, School, 4201 S.E. Shawnee Heights Road, Tecumseh. Register by June 19 by emailing gishj@usd450.net. The registration fee is $10, which includes lunch.  
  • June 26: Hutchinson, Career and Technical Education Academy, 800 15th Circle, Hutchinson. Register here by June 21. The registration fee is $15, which includes lunch.  
  • June 27: Lakewood Middle School, 1135 Lakewood Circle, Salina. Register by June 22 by emailing Jennifer.nelson@usd305.com. The registration fee is $15, which includes lunch.  
     

Contact the workshop site to register everyone attending from your district to guarantee that adequate seating and a workshop packet will be available for all participants. Participants are responsible for the registration fee charged by the host site.  

KSDE anticipates the Excel Budget Program will be available to download in late June.  

First-year superintendents, as well as first-year board clerks and/or business managers, are encouraged to attend the New Superintendents Budget 101 Workshop from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at the Salina District Office, 1511 Gypsum Ave. In Salina. Registration information and more details are available here. A $15 fee covers a meal and refreshments. KSDE recommends that new superintendents starting on July 1 also should attend one of the regular budget workshops listed above.
