Jacobs recently joined KSDE as counseling consultant

Mallory Jacobs, a school counselor at Whitson Elementary School, Topeka Unified School District 501, was recently named the 2022 School Counselor of the Year by the Kansas School Counselor Association (KSCA).

Before joining Topeka USD 501, Jacobs served as a school counselor for Centre USD 397 in Lost Springs, Kansas.

Jacobs received her master's degree in counseling from Kansas State University in Manhattan.

Keelin Pierce, principal of Whitson Elementary School, told KSCA that Jacobs "excels in creating a school environment full of respect and rapport."

"Students are naturally drawn to her as she is highly skilled in demonstrating empathy and relating to all children," Pierce said.

Jacobs told WIBW Channel 13 that students are the why behind what she does.

"They are fantastic," she said. "Anything you can do to help with education is the foundation for learning - that is why I do what I do."

Jacobs recently join the Kansas State Department of Education as a counseling leader consultant on the Career, Standards and Assessment Services (CSAS) team.
