Nominations sought for Professional Practices Commission (PPC)

There are two vacancies on the Professional Practices Commission (PPC). The Kansas State Department of Education is requesting nominations to fill these two positions:

  • Open position 1: Public school classroom teacher (any level) .
  • Open position 2: Public school classroom teacher (any level).


The PPC meets multiple times per year as needed (once a month or every other month) and is comprised of nine members appointed for up to two three-year terms of office by the Kansas State Board of Education. This includes five classroom teachers (with at least one elementary teacher, one junior high or middle school teacher and one senior high school teacher); one chief public school administrator; one public elementary school principal; one public junior high or middle level principal; and one public senior high principal.

The PPC shall exercise disciplinary and advisory functions and shall hear cases arising under rules and regulations adopted by the State Board of Education involving the issuance, suspension, revocation or reinstatement of teacher and school administrator licenses and render initial orders for disposition thereof.

Minimum qualifications are:

  1.  Be currently licensed by the State Board of Education.
  2. Have at least five years of professional educational experience.
  3. Have been in the active practice of education for at least three years.


Preference will be given to nominees that represent school districts not currently represented on the PPC. The current roster of represented school districts is:

  • Fairfield USD 310
  • Auburn-Washburn USD 437
  • Ashland USD 220
  • Wichita USD 259
  • Shawnee Mission USD 512
  • Kansas City USD 500
  • Lansing USD 469


Nominations need to be submitted no later than Oct. 14 to Shane Carter at scarter@ksde.org.
