Olathe driver education teacher cited as Teacher of Excellence

Gary Scott, of Olathe, has been selected as a Teacher of Excellence by the National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF) and the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA).

Scott has been teaching driver education since 1973. He has taught at Johnson County Community College and Johnny Rowlands Driving School in Overland Park. He has served as president of ADTSEA and currently is the secretary/treasurer of the group.

Sandra Dunbar, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, also was named a Teacher of Excellence.

Both Scott and Dunbar were recognized at the ADTSEA national conference earlier this week in Wichita.

ADTSEA’s Teacher of Excellence Award honors outstanding driver and traffic safety educators. The award is sponsored by NRSF in honor of Dr. Francis Kenel, a traffic safety engineer, former director of AAA, author of driver-ed teacher training manuals and a longtime member of ADTSEA.

ADTSEA is the professional association that represents traffic safety educators throughout the United States. NRSF is a nonprofit organization that creates driver education programs and materials for free distribution to teachers, police, traffic safety agencies, youth advocacy groups and others.

Congratulations to Scott and Dunbar!
