Additional CDL Proxy testing, ELDT Theory event created

An additional date and location for commercial driver’s license (CDL) proxy testing and Entry-Level Driving Training (ELDT) Theory has been created. 

There will be an event March 14-15 in Kansas City, Kansas, and another one March 28-29 in Dodge City. 

Prospective school bus drivers are invited to these events. 

Registrants will receive ELDT Theory and a CDL written test to obtain a commercial learner’s permit. 

Prospective Kansas school bus drivers will be able to take the written test for all or any of the following: 

  • General knowledge test for a Class B CDL (fifty questions). 
  • Written test for P Endorsement (20 questions). 
  • Written test for S Endorsement (20 questions). 
  • Air brake test (25 questions). 

 
Participants must score 80% on each test taken to pass. 

The ELDT Theory providers are Kansas City Unified School District 500 and Dodge City USD 443. 

The written test proctor for both events will be Brian Brunt from the Kansas Department of Revenue. 

The ELDT will be administered at 9 a.m. March 14 at the Kansas City USD 500 Central Office and Training Center, 2010 N. 59th St. The CDL written test will be administered at 9 a.m. March 15 in the same location. 

The ELDT Theory will be administered at 9 a.m. March 28 at the Dodge City USD 443 Administration Building, 2112 1st Ave. The CDL written test will be administered at 9 a.m. March 29 in the same location. 

Test takers are asked to bring a current driver’s license for identification purposes and a current piece of first-class mail to establish residence address.

There is a cost of $13 for the commercial learner’s permit. There is no charge for the ELDT. Obtaining behind-the-wheel training will be the responsibility of the registrant. 

In preparation for the testing, registrants can study the appropriate sections of the Kansas Commercial Driver's License Manual (ksrevenue.gov)
