Ensure your school is ready for the 2023-2024 Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot

Engaging families as children transition into kindergarten supports kindergarten readiness and later student success. Please make sure your school is kindergarten ready for the 2023-2024 school year by preparing to partner with families of incoming kindergarten students to complete the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®, Third Edition (ASQ-3) and the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2).

All schools must administer both the ASQ-3 and the ASQ:SE-2 to incoming kindergarten students by Sept. 20, 2023. All data must be entered into ASQ Online by Oct. 10, 2023.

The website agesandstages.com/ks includes online training modules, quick-reference guides for administrators and teachers, and “how-to” videos.

If staff will be leaving positions or changing roles next school year, make sure you know who will be responsible for the ASQ and confirm that they are able to log in to asqonline.com. Note that each building’s existing ASQ online program administrators can create new Provider and Program Administrator users for teachers and other administrators. Contact Stacy Clarke at kansasicc@ksde.org if a user will need access to multiple buildings.

Ensure that as families are submitting questionnaires via Family Access, school staff members are following up in a timely way to review and share results. Schools that began the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot in the springtime agreed to the expectation that they will follow up with families within two weeks of completing the questionnaires to provide results and learning activities. Turning on “My Alerts” in the “My Profile” section of ASQ Online may be helpful.

Action steps to consider as you prepare for the coming year:

  • Archive old student data.
  • Update current users.
  • Check URLs to ensure families have appropriate access.
  • Check Family Access landing pages to be sure all are set to Program/Shared Family Access. Directions can be found in the Brookes Publishing help section.
  • Collaborate to consider how screening data will be shared with families.
  • Turn on “My Alerts” for notification of pending Family Access screenings. These alerts will automatically be sent when screenings have been completed and are ready to be accepted.
