The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) and College Board have partnered to offer statewide informational sessions on AP Seminar: English 10. 

AP Seminar: English 10 gives students an English course more relevant to a wide array of careers, anchored in project-based learning, collaboration, presentation skills and individual research. The course framework gives English teachers flexibility to design units and select texts from their existing curricula while continuing to meet state standards. 

To be clear, English 10 teachers wouldn’t be replacing their current English 10 curriculum but rather enhancing it with AP Seminar English frameworks and online resources.   

Additional AP Seminar: English 10 Experience Workshops will take place at two different times and locations. Smoky Hill Education Service Center in Salina will host one from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 9. KSDE, 900 S.W. Jackson in Topeka, will host another one from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 10. 

These workshops are in-person and provide an in-depth view of the AP Seminar: English 10 framework. There also will be a review of the Kansas English language arts (ELA) standards alignment to the AP Seminar framework. Participants will engage in an AP Seminar-style lesson and explore AP Seminar syllabi and instructional resources. 

Registration: AP Seminar: English 10 Workshop Experience – Feb. 9 or 10, 2023. 

There are two steps to offering AP Seminar at a school: 

1. AP Seminar sign-up form: If you intend to offer AP Seminar: English 10 in the 2023-2024 school year, complete the 2023-24 AP Seminar Sign-Up Form.  
2. Register for professional learning: Teachers must complete a one-time five-day workshop the summer prior to teaching the course. For the 2023-24 school year, Kansas educators will receive fee waivers to attend the AP Summer Institute (APSI) for AP Seminar: English (a $1,095 savings). Registration launches in March 2023, and dates and locations will be announced on the AP Capstone Professional Learning Page.
