After success of AP Seminar: English 10 workshops, two experiences added

Because of the interest in AP Seminar: English 10, the Kansas State Department of Education and College Board have added two experience workshops – one from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 9 at Smoky Hill Education Center and one from 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 10 at the Landon State Office Building in Topeka.

The College Board and the Kansas Department of Education have partnered to offer Kansas schools the opportunity to enhance their current English 10 course with the frameworks and supports provided by AP Seminar: English 10.

With no prerequisites, AP Seminar: English 10 gives students an English course relevant to a wide array of careers, anchored in project-based learning, collaboration, presentation skills and individual research.

The course framework gives English 10 teachers the flexibility to design units and select texts from their existing curricula while continuing to meet state standards. English 10 teachers won't be replacing their current English 10 courses, but rather enhancing their current English 10 courses with AP Seminar supports and group and individual performance tasks on topics chosen by your students.

Due to this partnership, College Board is offering Kansas teachers (only) the opportunity to attend a five-day AP Summer Institute (APSI) for AP Seminar: English 10 in summer 2023 at no cost.

This offer is for as many English 10 teachers as a school/district wants to train – a savings of $1,100 per teacher. Preference to APSI options and locations will be determined by AP Seminar Sign Up Form submission dates.

To learn more about this opportunity, join us in person for the AP Seminar: English 10 Experience Workshop on Feb. 9 at Smoky Hills Education Center or on Feb. 10 at KSDE in Topeka.

Use the link below to reserve a space. There is no cost for this workshop. This experience workshop took place on Jan.16 at KSDE, and 10 of 17 districts in attendance signed up to be an AP Seminar English 10 school at the conclusion of the session.
