KSDE Teacher Licensure gauging interest in Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Teacher Licensure team is asking building and district leaders to fill out a survey to gauge participation interest in the Kansas Registered Teacher Apprenticeship program.

The survey will give KSDE a better understanding of who is interested in the program and who would like more information about it. Saying “yes” in the survey doesn’t commit a district to the apprenticeship program. Instead, it will identify potential districts to participate in the program during the 2024-2025 school year.

The Kansas Registered Teacher Apprenticeship program is a four-year, competency-based apprenticeship program established in collaboration between the Kansas Department of Commerce and KSDE.

The program allows an individual to receive paid on-the-job training in a school district while he or she completes related technical instruction to earn a bachelor’s degree and complete a teacher preparation program. This will lead to a license in either elementary education or secondary education.

The program provides funding through grants and scholarships to enable the apprentice to complete a bachelor’s degree and teacher preparation program at little to no cost.

If you have any questions, please email Teacher Licensure at Apprentice@ksde.org.
