Upcoming professional learning opportunities available across state

A full-day workshop focused on structured literacy will be offered at four locations throughout Kansas. 

These professional learning opportunities will be led by Hailey Hawkinson, a second-grade teacher and Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Teacher Leader Consultant.  

During the workshop – titled “Structured Literacy: The 90-Minute Block Party” - participants will explore the vital elements for structured literacy instruction rooted in The Science of Reading; discover ways to implement these elements; and examine the time structure within the block.  

The target audience is K-2/3. Participants will bring along their literacy curriculum and a list of programs/materials for use in their district. Participants will be exploring structured literacy elements within their curriculum/materials to highlight "non-negotiables" and gaps within the curriculum.
