The Kansas Volunteer Commission and Emporia State University School of Humanities + Social Sciences are excited to announce the 2024 Civic Engagement Conference. The conference will be held Wednesday, April 10 at Emporia State University Memorial Union, in Emporia. The theme of the conference is “Empowering Kansas through Civic Engagement.” This conference will bring together schools and communities to learn and network around civic engagement, mentoring and volunteerism. There is a $25 registration fee, which covers continental breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and networking opportunities. The deadline to register is March 29. The Kansas Volunteer Commission and ESU are seeking proposals for 50-minute workshops at the 2024 Civic Engagement Conference. Workshop sessions will be held on the morning and afternoon of April 10. Presenters may elect for up to two 50-minute sessions for a two-part series if there is a demonstrated need. All types of sessions will be considered, such as presentations, panels, round tables or a combination of the above. Schools are strongly encouraged to submit a proposal to share their best practices around civic engagement, youth service, positive youth development, service-learning, civic education and more! Presenters receive two free registrations to the conference. The deadline for Presenter Proposals is Feb. 16. Students in grades 6-12 are invited to create a poster presentation on a tri-fold presentation board not to exceed 48 inches in height and 48 inches in width. The selected poster project will present student identified problems in their schools, community, nation, or the world, and propose solutions to those problems. The format should describe the PROBLEM, the POWER, the PLAN, and the PEOPLE. The selected student(s) will be expected to be available for questions during a session at the conference. The student will receive free registration to the conference. The deadline for Student Poster Presentations is Feb. 28.
