Kansas State Department of Education Kansans Can Star Recognition Program

Overview

The Kansans Can Star Recognition Program recognizes districts for what Kansans told us they value.

These values include social-emotional growth, kindergarten readiness, Individual Plans of Study (IPS), high school graduation preparedness, high school graduation, civic engagement and postsecondary success.

The Star Recognition Program recognizes a district’s achievement in these areas.

For the 2019-2020 school year, districts will be recognized in the following quantitative areas only:

  • Commissioner’s Award
  • Prepared for high school graduation
  • Graduation rate
  • Postsecondary effectiveness

Beginning in February 2020, districts will have the opportunity to apply for recognition in the following qualitative categories:

  • Social-emotional growth
  • Kindergarten readiness
  • IPS
  • Civic engagement

Rubrics will be established for each of these qualitative measures to help guide districts in the application process. More information will be released in early 2020.
