As a teenager, Jeri Hile spent her summers volunteering at a day camp for visually impaired children. She had no idea then that nearly two decades later — after spending several years doing technical drawings for a living — she would pick up a newspaper and see an ad that would change the course of her career.

Other schools, districts also honored at ceremony in Topeka
Beloit Junior/Senior High School, Beloit Unified School District 273, and Nemaha Central Elementary/Middle School, Nemaha Central USD 115, were announced as 2018 Kansas Schools of Character on Thursday, May 3, during a special ceremony at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka.
The Kansas State Board of Education will conduct its next monthly meeting May 8 and 9 in Topeka.
