Register for fall higher ed program reviewer training

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) will provide a training workshop for reviewing higher education teacher preparation programs from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 6 in person at the Landon State Office Building, 900 S.W. Jackson in Topeka.

Program review is vital to maintaining strong educator preparation in Kansas. Every semester, KSDE has reviews of educator preparation programs. Higher education institutions must have approved programs for all areas for which they wish to make licensing recommendations.

Each KSDE-accredited higher education institution’s preparation programs are reviewed on a seven-year cycle, with program reviews taking place 18 months in advance of the educator preparation provider's accreditation visit.

Trained reviewers thoroughly examine the description and supporting documents of an educator preparation program in their content area and work with fellow team members to determine whether the program meets the Kansas higher education preparation program standards for that area; write any areas for improvement; and complete a program review team report using a provided template. The training will guide attendees through the review process.

Please RSVP by Sept. 26. Both new trainees and current reviewers who want a refresher are welcome. The event will be capped at 50 attendees.
