KSDE to host Science Regional Professional Learning Communities in February, April

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) will host Science Regional Professional Learning Communities in February and April 2024.

“Science Assessments and Meaningful Feedback to Fuel Instruction” will be Feb. 21 at various locations across Kansas.” “Summative Assessments in Science: Unit/Course Level” will be April 10 at various locations across the state. Sessions will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

In this “Science Assessments and Meaningful Feedback to Fuel Instruction” session, participants will look at unit coherence and how to provide meaningful feedback to guide students’ sensemaking in science. Participants also will look at specific tasks in science that allow strong formative assessment practices to inform next steps in units.

In the “Summative Assessments in Science: Unit/Course Level” session, participants will work toward unit coherence and discuss what mastering standards might look like, as well as how multiple assessment types can work together to help students succeed. The focus will be on what assessing three dimensions together might look like and summative assessments used in the classroom at the unit/course level.

The cost for each event is $35.
