Thirteen Kansas educators receive National Board certification

TOPEKA -  Thirteen Kansas educators achieved first-time certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in 2011, according to an announcement from NBPTS this week.

Thirteen Kansas educators receive National Board certification

TOPEKA -  Thirteen Kansas educators achieved first-time certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in 2011, according to an announcement from NBPTS this week.

 National Board Certification is recognized nationwide as a model for identifying accomplished teaching practice.  A study by the National Research Council found that students taught by National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) make higher gains on achievement tests than students taught by other teachers. In order to achieve NBCT status, teachers must meet licensing and experience eligibility requirements and submit an extensive portfolio of their teaching practice, as well as demonstrate content knowledge through a series of assessments. 

 In addition to the newly certified teachers, 21 Kansas teachers were recertified in 2011. A list of newly certified teachers and recertified teachers is included below.
