Challenge encourages employer-supported volunteering
Fourteen Kansas employers have registered for the first Give Back Kansas Challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to engage Kansans in employer-supported volunteering. This statewide challenge runs from April 1 through May 31, 2019.
The Give Back Kansas Challenge is an opportunity for employees to receive recognition by tracking and reporting their volunteer hours.
Registered organizations will compete to win a $1,000 grant from Volunteer Kansas. The grant will be donated to the charity of organization’s choice.
Volunteer Kansas is partnering with the Kansas Volunteer Commission to introduce the challenge to Kansans.
“We are thrilled to have 15 businesses register to compete in the challenge,” said Nola Brown, executive director of Volunteer Kansas. “We hope participation will grow each year as employers realize the value of serving their communities alongside their employees and encourage them to volunteer.”

There is no cost to participate. Businesses will be separated into three size categories depending upon the number of employees. Organizations will record their volunteer hours through an online portal. Winners will be selected from each size category by determining the average number of volunteer hours per business completed during the challenge period.

The mission of the Kansas Volunteer Commission (KVC) is to empower all Kansans to meet community needs through service. The commission's primary role is to provide resources and leadership to support local initiatives that tackle community needs. As the state service commission, the KVC directs effective national service programs, provides volunteer management training opportunities and supports the work of Mentor Kansas. Volunteer Kansas Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charity based in Wichita, Kansas. The organization’s website, http://www.volunteerkansas.org, is devoted to increasing volunteerism in the state of Kansas and providing a hub for Kansans to find other Kansans who may need volunteer or material help.
