Title I Targeted Assistance Schools

There are two types of Title I schools:  Targeted Assistance Schools (TAS) and Schoolwides.  A TAS is one in which Title I funds may only be used for services to eligible children identified as having the greatest need for special assistance.  Districts and Title I schools follow specific criteria in determining which children are eligible to receive Title I services.  These services are supplemental to the core program; they focus primarily on reading and mathematics support.  Approximately two thirds of Kansas Title I schools are TAS.

Title I Schoolwide Programs

The purpose of a schoolwide model is to allow a school to undergo a comprehensive reform of the entire educational program in the school to assist all children, particularly the lowest achieving children, to meet the high state academic achievement standards. Many Kansas schools have combined the MTSS framework and the schoolwide model to focus on the redesign of instructional delivery for all students in a Title I school.

For information on schoolwide, please contact Jean Rush, 785-296-7884 or jrush@ksde.org

All new schoolwide schools must use the KansaStar system to plan. Contact Doug Boline (dboline@ksde.org) or Pat Hill (phill@ksde.org) for more information on KansaStar.
