Renewal of Initial Teaching, School Specialist, or School Leadership

If eligible to upgrade to a professional license based on mentoring, please use Form 21.

If this is your first renewal and you are applying within 5 years of the issuance of your first initial license:

  1. Submit application Form 20 and processing fee.

If your last initial license was issued more than five years ago or you did not verify renewal requirements with your last initial license, submit verification of one of the following renewal requirements

  1. Passing scores for the appropriate content assessment(s) and the Principles of Learning and Teaching test taken less than one year ago or;
  2. Eight semester hours of recent credit related to endorsement(s) on the initial license or;
  3. One year of recent accredited experience in your initial endorsement(s) area or;
  4. Completion of professional development points awarded by a Kansas local professional development council:  160 including at least 80 points for college credit or 120 with an advanced degree or;
  5. If you are completing a program to add a new teaching, school specialist, or leadership endorsement during this license period, you may renew on eight of the semester credit hours you complete as part of the program.

Before you can fill-out and submit any online application, you must register a user name and password to be used for this application process.  Remember this user name and password if you want to pay electronically when it is time to pay!

Steps for completing an online application: 

  1. Click on the register button to display the KSDE User Registration Form.
  2. Follow the steps to complete the registration process.
  3. Log in with the username and password you created to see the KSDE Web Applications link.
  4. Click on the “License Application” menu option to access the application form you need.
  5. Fill in the form and submit.
  6. You can monitor the progress of your application using the Educator License Lookup.

*Do not log-in with the username and password you may use to access KEEP or other KSDE authenticated applications.
