STEM License Requirements

Requirements for a STEM License:

  1. Hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in life science, physical science, earth and space science, mathematics, engineering, computer technology, finance or accounting.
  2. Five years of full-time professional work experience in the subject – must be the same subject as the degree.
    1. Math degree must have math work experience. Engineering degree must have engineering experience.
    2. An engineering degree with math experience/math degree with engineering is not applicable.
  3. Employment by a Kansas school district to teach only the subject specified on the license, which is based on the degree and experience in that subject.

STEM License:

  1. Valid for the current/upcoming school year.
  2. Valid only for the subject matter identified on the license.
  3. Valid only in the school system identified on the license.
  4. Valid for teaching in grades 8-12.
  5. Renewable each year with application for renewal.

Before you can fill-out and submit any online application, you must register a user name and password to be used for this application process.  Remember this user name and password if you want to pay electronically when it is time to pay!
 
Steps for completing an online application: 
 
  1. Click on the register button to display the KSDE User Registration Form.
  2. Follow the steps to complete the registration process.
  3. Log in with the username and password you created to see the KSDE Web Applications link.
  4. Click on the “License Application” menu option to access the application form you need.
  5. Fill in the form and submit.
  6. You can monitor the progress of your application using the Educator License Lookup.
 
*Do not log-in with the username and password you may use to access KEEP or other KSDE authenticated applications.
