Provisional License Requirements

 

What are the requirements for a Provisional Teaching Endorsement License?

  1. You must already hold a valid, Initial or Professional Kansas teaching license in another subject. (Emergency and Standard Substitute licenses not applicable)
  2. 50% of the program for the new teaching area is complete.
  3. Special education provisional – requires coursework in the areas of methodology, characteristics and a practicum is already completed (a full 50% program completion is not required for the first special education provisional).
  4. A Kansas district must verify you are assigned to teach in the provisional subject area at the appropriate level.
  5. To qualify for a second provisional, you must have completed half of the remaining coursework deficiencies. 

What are the requirements for a Provisional School Specialist License for school counselor, library media, reading specialist?

  1. You must hold a valid Kansas Professional teaching license.
  2. 50% of the school specialist program is complete.
  3. A Kansas district must verify you will be employed in the appropriate school specialist assignment.

NOTE: Provisionals are not available for school leadership licenses, school psychologist licenses, or K-6 elementary education endorsements.

Before you can fill-out and submit any online application, you must register a user name and password to be used for this application process.  Remember this user name and password if you want to pay electronically when it is time to pay!
 
Steps for completing an online application: 
 
  1. Click on the register button to display the KSDE User Registration Form.
  2. Follow the steps to complete the registration process.
  3. Log in with the username and password you created to see the KSDE Web Applications link.
  4. Click on the “License Application” menu option to access the application form you need.
  5. Fill in the form and submit.
  6. You can monitor the progress of your application using the Educator License Lookup.
 
*Do not log-in with the username and password you may use to access KEEP or other KSDE authenticated applications.
