Summer Food Service Program Event in Winfield to Feature Body Venture Exhibit

KEY FACTS:

What:    The Kansas State Department of Education and Winfield Schools are working together to provide a nutrition education experience with the launch of the area’s Summer Food Service Program.  This is one of more than 350 sites serving meals to Kansas children during summer months when school is not in session.

The Summer Food Service Program is targeted to areas where 50 percent or more of school-age children are eligible for reduced price or free meals.  Good nutrition through the summer assures healthy children ready to learn when school resumes in the fall.  Summer Food Service Programs are sponsored by schools and private non-profit organizations and are held at schools, parks and other areas where children gather in the summer.

As part of the event, children and parents are invited to tour the Body Venture exhibit – a walk-through exhibit that promotes the message “Eat Smart, Play Hard” for healthy bodies and minds. Body Venture is a traveling exhibit sponsored by KSDE’s Department of Child Nutrition & Wellness that visits nearly 100 schools each year sharing nutrition education with thousands of children.
