Bill Daugherty Resigns as Superintendent of the Kansas State School for the Blind

TOPEKA, May 10, 2007 / On Wednesday, May 10, 2007, the State Board of Education accepted the resignation of Mr. Bill Daugherty as superintendent of the Kansas State School for the Blind. Daugherty had been superintendent for the past 14 years.

TOPEKA, May 10, 2007 / On Wednesday, May 10, 2007, the State Board of Education accepted the resignation of Mr. Bill Daugherty as superintendent of the Kansas State School for the Blind. Daugherty had been superintendent for the past 14 years.
 
 In his letter of resignation Daugherty states, “I am very appreciative of the opportunities that I have been given here by the State Board of Education and the Office of the Commissioner. I believe our school has grown to fit the unique character and needs of the state.” 
 
Interim Commissioner Dale M. Dennis said, “Bill has done an exceptional job as superintendent at KSSB and is highly respected across the state and nation.” 
 
Daugherty leaves Kansas to return to his home state of Texas where he has been appointed superintendent of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually-Impaired. His last day at KSSB will be July 20, 2007.
 
Madeleine Burkindine, currently the principal of the Kansas State School for the Blind, has been appointed as superintendent/principal. Mr. Dennis continues, “Madeleine is a strong supporter of the mission of KSSB to serve as an outreach support to the districts statewide. She has the respect and support of staff at KSSB and is well qualified to build upon the school’s successes.”
