State Education Board Awards Charter Organization Grant
 
TOPEKA, November 16, 2006 /The Kansas State Board of Education has approved a grant award to the Kansas Association of Public Charter Schools. The grant award is part of the 2006 Charter School Federal Grant the Agency received in June of 2006. 
 
The 2006 Charter School Federal Grant calls for and provides funding for the development of a self-sustaining statewide charter school organization to assist new public charter schools in the planning and implementation process. This organization also is expected to provide assistance to facilitate the quality and sustainability for established public charter schools. The goal of this organization is to provide a statewide system of support for excellence in public charter schools.
 
The Kansas Association of Public Charter Schools was identified as the most promising and well-developed proposal as determined by a national panel of prominent charter school organizations.
  
Services identified in the request for proposal submitted by the Kansas Association of Public Charter Schools included:
 
  • Facilitating statewide programs (i.e. workshops, conferences, meetings) that foster partnerships among schools, local school districts, communities and businesses.
  • Conducting site meetings to support new program implementation.
  • Providing professional development in areas identified by the needs of charter school staff and administration.
  • Establishing method(s) for public charter schools to share information and network.
  • Facilitating an annual charter school symposium.
  • Conducting regional workshops focused on the development of high quality public charter schools.
 Under the terms of the proposal, funding will be based upon services delivered and provided in accordance to federal grant funding guidelines.
