Where: Capitol Plaza Hotel, portico entrance (In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the hotel lobby—lounge area)
 
TOPEKA—Jeri Powers, the 2008 Kansas Teacher of the Year, will be presented the keys to a 2008 Dodge Avenger at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2008, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel byKim Heuermann, Corporate Account Manager and State of Kansas contract—Topeka, Enterprise-Rent-a-Car. 
            The Enterprise Foundation is providing a six-month lease through Enterprise Rent-a-Car to the state’s top educator. In addition to the lease, Powers will receive $1500 in ethanol gasoline from the Kansas Corn Commission.
            A reading specialist at Riverview Elementary School in Shawnee, USD 232 De Soto, Mrs. Powers earned the state’s top honor in November when she was chosen the 2008 Kansas Teacher of the Year from a field of approximately 100 candidates. The prestigious award requires her to travel extensively throughout the state.
During the first half of her reign as the 2008 Kansas Teacher of the Year, Powers is expected to log more than 15,000 miles as she represents Kansas teachers at conferences, conventions, and in discussions with the state’s policymakers.
Dignitaries expected at the ceremony include Dale M. Dennis, deputy commissioner of education; Sharon Zoellner, superintendent, USD 232 De Soto; Mark Dodge, principal of Riverview Elementary School. Other dignitaries from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, include Brett Munsey, area rental manager and Jeff Hale, branch rental manager.
            The 2008 Kansas Teacher of the Year finalists are expected to be in attendance.   State Board of Education members have also been invited to attend.
