Education Commissioner Finalists Named

TOPEKA, April 27, 2007 / Finalists for the Kansas Education Commissioner position were named today by State Board Chairman Dr. Bill Wagnon.

EDUCATION COMMISSIONER FINALISTS NAMED

TOPEKA, April 27, 2007 / Finalists for the Kansas Education Commissioner position were named today by State Board Chairman Dr. Bill Wagnon. The two are Alexa Posny, currently with the U.S. Department of Education and Marilou Joyner, an education consultant for the Kansas City Missouri school district and a former assistant education commissioner in Missouri.
 
“The candidates chosen have impressive resumes,” said Dr. Wagnon. “They were selected from a field of five candidates who were interviewed by the board on Thursday.”
 
Posny is the director of the office of special education in Washington, D.C. She is a former deputy commissioner of education here in Kansas. Joyner is executive director of the Kansas City Missouri School District Higher Education Partnership and a former assistant education commissioner in Missouri.
 
The two candidates will be interviewed again May 7, 2007, at the Kansas State Department of Education. Interviews will begin at 1:00 p.m.
