Governor’s Scholars Award Program

At the invitation of Governor Kathleen Sebelius, students across Kansas have been invited to attend the 25h Annual Governor’s Scholars Award Program on May 4, 2008, in Topeka.

Where:  Lee Arena in the Petro Health Center, Washburn University campus
 
At the invitation of Governor Kathleen Sebelius, students across Kansas have been invited to attend the 25h Annual Governor’s Scholars Award Program on May 4, 2008, in Topeka.
 
The recognition ceremony honors the top academic one percent of Kansas high school seniors. Scholars are selected from accredited public and private schools in the state.
 
“These young Kansans have shown serious dedication to their studies and strong commitment to their goals,” Governor Sebelius said.
 
This program is coordinated for the Governor by the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force. It is funded by donations from the Kansas Bankers Association and other private sector businesses in Kansas. 
 
The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force was formed 25 years ago. The following organizations are members of the Task Force: American Association of University Women, Kansas Association of School Boards, Kansas Congress of Parents and Teachers, Kansas State Board of Education, Kansas—National Education Association, Kansas School Public Relations Association, Kansas State High School Activities Association, and United School Administrators of Kansas.
 
Lieutenant Governor Mark Parkinson will be representing Governor Sebelius at the ceremony. Other dignitaries attending include Commissioner of Education, Alexa Posny; Deputy Commissioner of Education, Dale M. Dennis; Kansas Teacher of the Year, Jeri Powers; Washburn University President, Jerry Farley; and Steve McSpadden, chairman of the Kansas Bankers Association and president of Union State Bank, Winfield.
