TOPEKA, July 3, 2007/The Kansas State Board of Education will hold its regular monthly board meeting on July 10 – 11, 2007, at the State Department of Education. During the two-day meeting in Topeka, the Board will recognize the 2006 national finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and hear from them regarding innovative approaches used to promote student achievement. The National Finalist for Mathematics is Teri Dow, Wamego West Elementary School. The National Finalist for Science is Jenifer Sinsel, Wichita Collegiate School. The Board will also recognize Norm Conard, a 2007 inductee into the National Teachers Hall of Fame. Conard will share with the Board ways to encourage students in the belief that one person can make a difference in the world.
The Board will hear a report on the visiting international teachers’ program, and also receive the revisions to the requirements for virtual schools.
They will make appointments to the Professional Standards and Licensure Review Committee and receive the revised education licensure standards.
