Dropout Prevention Summit

The Pre-Summit, Summit and Post-Summit proceedings, including all presentations, materials and links, are all available on this page. If you were not able to attend, but would still like to be connected, let Jessica Noble know at jnoble@ksde.org. The Summit was just the first step of many exciting opportunities in Kansas to work together on behalf of our young people. Thanks for all of your hard work on behalf of Kansas youth.

Pre-Summit Work

Prior to the main summit, eight regional pre-summits were conducted around the state in September 2009. These pre-summits set the stage for the statewide summit by raising awareness of the dropout problem and identifying key areas that should be addressed. Click here to see the full pre-summit report.

Between June 2009 and October 2009, over 500 youth shared their opinions about school and life through our online youth survey. Click here to see what young people in your area and around the state had to say.

Kansas Dropout Prevention Summit

Over 350 people, representing a variety of sectors and interests gathered in Wichita on October 20, 2009 to learn from others and share their own expertise in and concern about the success of Kansas youth.

Post-Summit Work

Seven regional post-summits were conducted in January 2010 as a follow-up to the statewide summit held in October. The purpose of the post-summits was to prioritize the challenges (identified at the pre-summits) of each region and to develop goals, objective and strategies to those prioritized as “high.” Participants also determined what strategies currently existed for meeting the challenges. The information collected was used to develop the statewide action plan on dropout prevention. Click here to see the full post-summit report.
