What is the Corporation for National and Community Service?
 
 The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) plays a vital role in supporting the American culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility.  To accomplish this, the CNCS provides grants and training and technical assistance to developing and expanding volunteer organizations.

CNCS Programs in Kansas


AmeriCorps Kansas Programs   AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides opportunities for citizens to serve their communities.  Participants in AmeriCorps, known as "members", join a local program and provide intensive community service.

AmeriCorps Kansas members meet critical educational, public-safety, environmental and human needs.

Currently, the KVC is funding 11 AmeriCorps program in different locations throughout the state - over 200 AmeriCorps members will serve with these 11 programs.
   The purpose of the Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF) is to increase the number of people who serve in meaningful roles as volunteers dedicated to addressing important needs in communities across Kansas.  VGF grants support efforts that expand the capacity of volunteer-connector organizations to recruit, manage, support and retain individuals to serve in high quality volunteer assignments.

Currently, KVC has administered over $100,000 in 7 VGF grants throughout the state.
   Senior Corps provides a wide range of opportunities for persons over the age of 55 to become more involved in their communities.  In Kansas, there are 27 Senior Corps programs working to meet the needs of communities and connecting community members.
   The Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) project began in 1965 as a part of the AmeriCorps program.  Since then, over 140,000 Americans have given their time to help communities around the nation.  These members work in and with low-income communities to respond to the needs of the individual communities.  Projects have included improving education, housing, and health care as well as strengthening community organizations and nonprofit organizations in the area.
