NGSS Resources from Outside Sources
(links below will take you out of the KSDE science website)
 National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
NSTA has been active in the development of the Next Generation Science Standards.  In addition to providing feedback on drafts of the standards, NSTA has developed a variety of resources to support teachers in understanding what is in the NGSS and Framework for K-12 Science Education that undergirds the NGSS.

NSTA NGSS website-- A good starting point for NSTA resources connected to the NGSS

Preparing for the Next Generation Science Standards—Major Practices--
NSTA webinar series that addresses each of the eight Science and Engineering Practices outlined in the Framework and integrated in the NGSS.

NSTA Study Guide for the Next Generation Science Standards Public Draft--This link will send you to a pdf developed by NSTA that gives an outline for getting together a study group to provide feedback on the second public draft.

NSTA webinar how to use this study guide (presented for the May public release)--Gerry Wheeler, interim Executive Director of NSTA, Harold Pratt, Past President of NSTA, and Ted Willard, Program Director at NSTA, talk specifically about how to convene a group of educators to learn more about the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and develop feedback to submit for the next phase of this draft document.

Building Capacity for State Science Education (BCSSE)
BCSSE, a project of the Council of State Science Supervisors, has developed a wide variety of resources to support teams, buildings, or districts to provide professional learning connected to the Framework and NGSS.

Next Generation Science Standards and ELLs
Helen Quinn, chair of the Framework writing committee, and Okhee Lee, Professor of Education at Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University, discuss NGSS and ELLs.  Helen Quinn and Okhee Lee summarize major shifts in the NGSS and share tools and resources to help teachers of ELLs navigate this new landscape.  They also discuss language demands and learning opportunities as ELLs participate in the science and engineering practices.
