Kansas is preparing to seek a waiver from some of the provisions of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act through the ESEA Flexibility Request process.
Last September President Obama announced his intent to grant NCLB waivers to states that met specific criteria. Under a waiver, states would not be required to demonstrate that all students had achieved proficiency in reading and math by 2014, and schools and districts would no longer be identified as “on improvement” and subject to the specific sanctions outlined in the legislation.
